On the sunny afternoon of May 18th, the Caucus of Caribbean Embassies in Beijing (comprising the Embassies of Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago), in collaboration with the Commercial Office of Haiti, successfully hosted “The Caribbean Experience 2024” at the Terrace of the Marriott North East Hotel.
The festive event saw the participation of members of the public, along with representatives from the diplomatic corps and the Chinese government, who jointly enjoyed the vibrant Caribbean cultural offerings on display- Caribbean delicacies, music (soca, reggae, and steelpan), and beverages such as rums and coffee.
Mr. Cai Wei, Director-General of the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, delivered remarks at the Opening Ceremony of the event on behalf of the Chinese Government.
In her opening statement, Her Excellency Analisa Low, Ambassador of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and current Chair of the Caucus of Caribbean Embassies, welcomed guests to “travel” to the region via the presentations at the event, highlighting attractions from each country:
Antigua and Barbuda with 365 beaches - one for each day of the year!
The Bahamas and its world renowned Junkanoo festival;
Barbados – home to superstar Rihanna, and the world-famous Mount Gay Rum;
Dominica, known as the “Nature Island”;
Grenada with its unforgettable underwater sculpture park;
Guyana’s pristine Amazonia forests and its unique adventure eco-tourism;
Haiti - full of natural treasures, cultural richness and captivating history;
Jamaica – the birthplace of the iconic Bob Marley and reggae music;
Suriname, considered the ‘Hidden Treasure of South America’;
Trinidad and Tobago - the home of the steelpan, and the largest Caribbean Carnival.
The Ambassador expressed hope that guests at the Caribbean Experience 2024 would be encouraged to journey to the region to experience all the above first hand!
