The year When Diplomat Magazine just began .the 3rd special issue for women brims with flowery spring as bright as it is now. The first interviewee was the wife of Turkish Minister. She stood out in the wives of diplomats with her brown eyes, beautiful long hair, sweet smile and tan skin, like a proud, sexy Persian cat.
That afternoon still has the sweet smell of strong Turkish black tea in my memory. She told me her feminine views, her life and hobbies. I stillremember what she said about her marriage.“When I finally met my husband, I knew the only thing I could do is love him, in ocean-deep love no matter what happens.”
She gave me a Turkish mascot, the blue eye.“Sweet Sunny, I believe this psychic blue eye willbring you blessings. We are awaiting you in Istanbul.”
The gift is still kept in my study, brightening and inspiring. But I never went to Istanbul.
For me it’s an amazing city across Eurasia, the magical capital which laid foundation for the Ottoman Empire and kept the Orient Express running for almost half a century. It will take infinite power to pay the visit.
The April in Beijing got hit by a sudden desert sandstorm, and was miraculously refilled with azure in an instant. We came to Turkish Embassy on the flowery afternoon. It rang vaguely familiar to me, as if I heard the call from afar. Just as Ambassador saying , "if you’ve n ever been to Istanbul, your life isi ncomplete."
that night I came home, I got an email from the Turkish taxi driver in Brussels, “Why haven’t you visited Turkey? We were one family ever since the ancient times. Check out the history…..”
Let’s all go to Turkey—the New Silk Road, New Eurasia, New Orient Express.
